Have you ever posed in front of a camera, get all prepped up and feeling great about the photo, only to end up looking otherwise?

In the end, the photo is a secret shame, locked up in a drawer forever. A bit traumatizing, isn’t it?

That aside, with the recent technological revolution came different social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Given that fact, sending out your most candid selfies or wacky photos to the world became a whole lot easier.

Save yourself from your past epic photos and give your most photogenic friend some competition! Yes, it’s possible.

Here are ten tricks on how to be photogenic all the time!

Trick #1. Capture the right angle.

And finally, after so many years, you and your college friends decided to have dinner together. Of course, this precious moment should be included in the books–you all need to look great! How so?

Here’s a tip, if you’re being photographed in a seated position, kindly ask the one taking the picture to capture the photo from above. Tilting your head to face meet the camera will make your jaw look more defined.

As for standing pictures when you try to model your #OOTD, have it shot from a lower angle. In effect, your body will appear long and lean which is perfect for the camera.

Trick #2. Give your hair the best look.

Hair is one’s crowning glory. Therefore, it’s essential to have it groomed when you take a photo. To be honest, it’s a huge factor in making your picture as perfect as it can be. Imagine a super duper messy hair, will it look good? Nah.

The ideal way to groom your hair is by giving it a quick touch of volume. Try to flip it upside down and shake the strands through your fingers. Flipping it back will leave you a tousled and imperfect look that will seem textured in photos.

If you want more dimension, you can tie your hair into a loose top knot moments before your actual photoshoot. Take it out after, and give it a quick spray of dry shampoo.

Trick #3. Expose your left side.

Did you know that there’s a study on the right side of your face to show during picture taking? Well, there is! According to Wake Forest University, the left side of a person’s face is more appealing to other people than the other side.

It is said that photos exposing the left side more were described to be more pleasant than those pictures with right side exposures. The researchers suggested that a human’s left cheek shows a higher level of emotional intensity, which most people find more pleasing.

See? There is a ‘good side’ after all!

Trick #4. Don’t be the person closest to the camera in a group shot.

Aside from selfies, groufies are the next big thing. Make yourself look great in front of the camera by following this trick!

Remember never to be the person standing closest in front of where the photo will be taken. That person will always look more magnified than others. But you may think, “Hey! At least my face is more exposed. I’m the star!”

Hate to break it to you Honey but, na-uh. It doesn’t look good. No worries! Stick to this trick, and you’re good!

Trick #5. Go with your best look.

We know that it’s always best to look natural–especially in photos. But note that there’s a fine line between a natural vibe and looking pale. Remember not to overdo your makeup and keep it as simple as possible.

Don’t forget to add a warm blush to your cheeks and a lovely sweet berry shade to your lips. A bare lip can be washed out of the camera’s flash. Try opting for brighter tones which would look best in shots.

Trick #6. Pick your outfit appropriately.

If you want to have a camera-ready outfit, you should keep yourself away from patterned clothes and go for a cinched waist and long lines. Avoid wearing too baggy and crazily designed clothing for it can take the focus out of you.

You should pick an outfit appropriate to the event and background of the photo. A corporate styled-OOTD wouldn’t look good in a wild party setting, right?

Trick #7. Slay it like the celebrities do it.

Wonder how celebrities and famous people slay the red carpet for a pose? We’ll let you in on the secret! It’s just buttocks tight, belly in, shoulders back and spine straight. Aside from that, turn your body three quarters farther away with a foot in front of the other and a shoulder closer to the photographer.

Note that this pose allows your best angle be captured. Slay it like a chic rockstar!

Trick #8. Browse your past photos.

Just like any other thing in life, you can always improve for the better–posing in front of the cam in this case. Browse your past photos and look for what you and others think is the best one. Study it carefully and let it be your guide for the next photo shoot.

How were you styled? Is it your best angle? You were most probably having a good time back then. Note all of this down!

Trick #9. Shoot in proper backgrounds.

Remember that the star in your portraits is you, not the background. You wouldn’t want it to distract, right? Before taking a shot, have a look at what’s behind you. If for example, you have a dark complexion or black hair, stay away from a dark black background.

If you’re wearing something as bright as white, you wouldn’t want to stand in front a plain white wall, would you?

Trick #10. Wear your best smile.

Never forget that the best accessory you can wear is your smile, a genuine one, of course! Instead of saying ‘cheese!’ say ‘money!’ Nope, not to make you a bit materialistic, but the hard -ey sound will force the corners of your mouth up–giving you a more realistic grin.

Of course, nothing beats a natural smile from a happy memory!

You may not know it, but having the most photogenic picture isn’t solely dependent upon a professional photographer making it look great. It also depends on how the subject projects and appears in front of the lens.

With these tricks, you never have to worry about how to pose for a good picture!
